The Only Answer You’ll Ever Need

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

We don’t always get to choose what happens to us.  There is an outer world at work over which we have limited control.  But we can always – always - choose how we respond to what happens.

  • “Oh no.”
  • “This should never have happened.”
  • “Why me?”
  • “I don’t believe it.”
  • “Why oh why?”

Responses like these, that resist what is, keep us stuck in place.  Creativity cannot operate within resistance.

So the proper answer to everything – everything – that happens - is: “Ok”.

  • “Ok.”
  • “So be it.”

It’s a short step from “Ok” to ”Now what?”  Instead of resisting, we start listening.  We become open again. Possibilities expand.  Inspiration can rise.  Something new can be created.

    Hi, Orna!

It’s easier to read this than to actually practise it. But I’ll keep this kernel of wisdom in mind and hope it springs up from the back of my head when the opportunity to say and think it comes along.

I always ask myself regarding everything. “What’s the next action?”. I think it’s important not only to observe things but also think about follow ups. It’s the major reason why I started my project at http://www.nextaction.ie.

My point is – answer is not always verbal.
