Interview About ALLi On The Self-Publishing Formula Podcast

I had great fun talking all things self-publishing with the lovely James Blatch on the Self-Publishing Formula podcast, which he runs with novelist Mark Dawson. James is just starting out on his writing career, Mark is a phenomenal bestseller and together they make courses that make a real difference to authors’ lives and livelihoods — most famously, so far, their Facebook for Authors course. I was thrilled to be invited onto their podcast, which focusses how authors can make a living telling stories. Like me, James and Mark both know there’s never been a better time to be a writer. And how to make the most…

Crazy Creative Challenge: One Year, 11 Books

I’ve so many books close to being finished that need me to push them through and over the line. Truth is, I’ve been struggling with the finishing phase of the writing process and driving myself a little nuts. So I’m deciding to get proactive instead of passive nutty, and set myself a crazy creative challenge for 2016. Okay, deep breath… ready…. To publish a book a month for the next eleven months Now to be clear, I’m not completely nuts. And these are not thrown off in three weeks and hardly long enough to be called an article never mind a book…

How To Self-Publish A Poetry Book

Selected Poetry 2012-2014 is almost here, it will publish in May 2015. I thought you might be interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the process of putting together a poetry print book, ebook and audio book. For this project, I worked closely with literary strategist Yen Ooi on concept, design and formatting. [Orna] Content – Poetry Selection The first step was for me to decide which poems I wanted to include in the selection.  As I looked back over three years of writing poetry, I was struck by how many poems connected to what I’ve been writing about in my fiction and nonfiction at the same…

Celebrating books and reading!

My dear friend and fellow writer, Debbie Young, recently told me that she is starting a literature festival to celebrate books and reading. It didn’t come as a surprise at all, as Debbie is known for her zeal in bookish activities, locally and nationally. Her love for books doesn’t stop at reading and writing. Nevertheless, I wanted to find out more about why she took upon herself to start the Hawkesbury Upton Literature Festival, which will have it’s first event on World Book Night, 23 April 2015. So here is what Debbie told me. Why I Founded the Hawkesbury Upton…

One of the 100 Most Influential People in Publishing? Me?

So… sat me down with a soya latte around 11, as is my wont, and the browsing material this morning was The Bookseller’s “100 Most Influential People in Publishing”. I was enjoying the read when I suddenly found myself nearly spitting out my coffee. For there, on the page of Rs, (alphabetical order) was…  me? Sharing space with the likes of Charlie Redmayne, CEO of Harper Collins; Amanda Ridout, Head of Zeus, and a certain Ms Rowling. Huh? It was for the work done by The Alliance of Independent Authors, of course. I’m still stunned, but also of course, so chuffed….
