In her book The Work, Katie Byron turns four questions into the most creative (for which read intuitive and imaginative) problem solving technique I know.

By asking four questions about your problem and applying what Byron calls “a turnaround”, voila, problem is solved.

The four questions are:

  • Is it true?
  • Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  • How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
  • Who would you be/what would be happening without the thought?

As soon as you get a “No” answer, or when you’ve finished the four questions, turn the thought around.

Now F-R-E-E-Write what happened to your problem.
