What do You Think of Yoko Ono? (And what’s the best way to win peace?)
Thursday, October 16th, 2008
My friend Karen, who’s always looking out for me, sent me through a link, as soul food, she said.
So I’m passing it on to you.
June 15th this year was the 40th anniversary of the Acorn Peace Event. For those of you too young (or too old) to remember, that’s the event that kicked off Yoko Ono and John Lennon’s famous peace campaign.
Since June, Yoko has been
publishing an ‘Acorn’ a day.
It will continue for 100 days.
So take a trip over to 100 Acorns. Try out one (or more) of Yoko’s “conceptual instructions”.
And tell me: what do you think of Yoko? Of her conceptual art?
But no opinions till you’ve done, not just read, one (or more) of her acorns.
And then, maybe, offer us your best way to win peace.

I like her blog, it’s very cool and thought-provoking, in a slightly nutty way, about life & positive thinking. However, it’s a bit simplistic about peace… While it does highlight peace, unfortunately violence & war is a multi-headed beast in this day and age…
Thank you for this link. I knew about the 100 Acorns project of the 90’s but had not realised she had set up a blog.
From her blog I went on to the video site she has, which is linked on the blog, and found her latest post most affecting. It’s called Passages For Light (2008).
This is a woman who for forty years has spoken out for peace, has worked and shared and continues to believe in the spirit of the human being to transend the greed which is in us all and become sharers of peace. I admire her work because I find it’s seeming simplicity is vast in consequence when one takes a moment to think and consider what it might mean for ones self.
I am not sure if one can win peace I think one might be able to become peace and then share what you are…this is what I see the acorns to be, ways of becoming and sharing.
I have sent two homemade postcards to friend and am working on another to send to the imagine peace tower since reading your post and going to her blog. So, I think it’s alright to post here now:0)
@ Mary: Welcome to the site, Mary. Yoko IS cool, I agree. I think the “nuttiness” is the sign of a very unique view and vision. Her understanding of peace is artistic, rather than political. Thought - and emotion - provoking is exactly what she’s about.
@ Daisy: Welcome back — yes I think you have earned your right to post :). I agree with all that you say but I do think of peace as something to be won, I must admit. I think it’s because I know that it takes vigilance on my part to keep awareness — without which I can fall into conflict, either internally or without. Hence I’m grateful to artists like Yoko whose work helps foster and strengthen awareness. She is a trooper, isn’t she?
I loved her site and found it refreshing in the direct and simple way that she has done it. It more than interested it me. I felt a bit like a kid, and was captivated by the little drawings and yet powerful messages. I bookmarked the site as I want to explore it when I have a bit more time. I was very pleased that you took the time to let me know about it. You are just SUCH a dear kind person. You have the most sincere energy. But it is more than that; it’s like a deep river runs through you, a river that has been running for a very long time. I find it (you) very peaceful…beautiful. Thank you Orna. Love, Robin
