Inspirational Trait: Doing the Dream.

Dereck has a dream.  He wants to leave his cubicle.  The cubicle is Dereck’s work space but also his metaphor for how he feels about his work life (not good).

Dereck dreams of  leaving his cubicle behind and going on a

three-month bike ride.  The bike ride too is a metaphor, a real journey but symbolising much more than that to Dereck.

He’s not just sitting back in his cubicle dreaming about it; he’s trying to make this dream a reality — and hoping to inspire others along the way.

If this bike trip happens, it will  be a tribute to the generosity of strangers.  Because that’s what Dereck needs.

Generosity.

Funds, to be blunt.

$10,000, to be specific.  (Enough to suport his family for the three months he’s away from the cubicle).

He is appealing across the Internet, hoping that he can find enough people tickled by his idea to send him a few dollars.

So far he’s got just over $1000.  So $9,000 outstanding.

$9000 is just 1000 people at $9 each.  Or 2000 at $3.50 each.  In Internet or money terms, these are not big figures.

Dereck is putting everything into this.  If he gets to go, he intends to do as many good things for strangers as possible along the journey.  He also hopes to get the space to reconsider his life options.  And he will record and report on the whole story on his blog.

Is it worth to you?  To spend a few dollars to you to help make a stranger’s dream come true?

I’ve been cheering Dereck from the sidelines as well. I hope he succeeds with this fundraiser — he’s been very good at spreading the word. It takes a lot of courage to do what he does.

    Dereck, you’re welcome.

Hi Ari, welcome to the site. You are so right, it takes courage to be as open as Dereck has been and to ask for help in this way. I hope people will rise to the opportunity to be part of his endeavour.
