After The Rising

Jo Devereux returns to Mucknamore, the seaside Irish village she fled twenty years before, with mixed feelings and is surprised to find herself agreeing to her mother’s dying request that she should stay on and write a family history. Family pride has caused Jo nothing but heartbreak — and shattered her relationship with Rory O’Donovan, the only man she ever truly loved.

In unearthing seventy-year old secrets of love and revenge in a time of war, and a killing that has haunted three generations, Jo reveals some astonishing truths, not only about her mother and her grandmother, but also about herself and Rory, who still lives in Mucknamore and has now come back into her life. Could a reluctant mission to exhume the past actually redeem Jo’s future?

After The Rising is a sweeping, multigenerational tale set in 1920s and 1990s Ireland that explores the struggle between freedom and love.

A Dance in Time

Izzy Mulcahy is a writer and mother and just about the last person anyone could imagine committing murder. Yet, when she is arrested for killing her ailing father, nobody doubts that she did it.

Izzy has long been obsessed with her namesake, Iseult Gonne, muse to three poets:  WB Yeats, Ezra Pound and Francis Stuart; a writer herself and ‘illegitimate’ daughter of  the more famous Maud Gonne, the British heiress turned Irish revolutionary.

This obsession with Iseult has affected all Izzy’s important relationships — with her father, her lover and her daughter.   So will it help her now that she has to stand up in court and explain how her father’s death happened… and why?

Set against a rich literary and historical background, A Dance in Time is a story about the love and faith of mothers and daughters.

Skin Diving

My next novel is called Skin Diving, the first a New York trilogy  about the Irish-American MacIntyre family.

From an “advanced psychotherapeutic facility” in upstate New York, Mel McIntyre writes the story of her Irish-American family: father Mack, a Manhattan building contractor; mother Zelda, a professional beauty, twin brother Jamie and baby Tara.

The mystery of six-month-old Tara’s cot death has long haunted the McIntyre family and Mel is convinced it has literally driven her mad and now caused her twin’s suicide.

She is determined to get well, so she can finally understand, and avenge, her siblings’ deaths. But who can she trust to help her?
