You know your calling and your customer. You’ve made a good start, perhaps experienced some beginners’ luck, but then comes the dawning realization of the challenges—the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

The work involved in getting to the next step.

You’re overworked and underpaid, and not having the impact you believe you should. Everything feels like a struggle.

You may have read the blogs and books, invested in courses or coaching, even called in some consultancy. Still, you feel blocked or confused. And meanwhile, there’s so much to be done.

There are business reasons why you’re struggling: your sales or follow-up process is shaky, you’re not tracking your metrics, your resources are poorly allocated.

Underneath those surface issues, though, is a deeper, creative reason. Perhaps you’re waiting for the divine spark of creative genius you’ve been told should accompany finding your passion. Perhaps you feel too self-conscious, too inadequate, too unworthy.

Don’t believe the voice that says you are too weak-willed to succeed, that all you need is a dose of hard work—the “seat of the pants to the seat of the chair.” Hard work is useless to you here, as is craft, technical, or business advice.

All of these will be required, yes, but first what’s needed is something else.

It precedes any gaps in your knowledge of your craft or trade or business management, and, unless you can get beyond here, hard work can be in the wrong direction

And craft or business advice is all but useless until you have it.

The ability to generate the create-state and apply it to your business.
