Be More Creative With Bruce Springsteen: On Keeping Creative Faith

“We’re all honorary citizens of that primal forest, and our burdens and weaknesses always remain. They are an ineradicable part of ourselves; they are our humanity. But when we bring light, the day becomes ours and their power to determine our future is diminished. This is the way it works. The trick is, you can only brighten the forest from beneath the canopy of its trees . . . from within. To bring the light, you must first make your way through the bramble-filled darkness. Safe travels!” Excerpt From: Born to Run

How To Set A Good Creative Intention

As this recent post points out, productivity is not creativity. Productivity planners, timetables, SMART goals and the like can be too detailed and prescriptive for creatives and creativists, who also prefer to harness the the power of the subconscious mind, rather than relying too heavily on resolution and willpower. It is certainly possible to produce something using that kind of motivation, but it tends to prove more successful for smaller and more concrete tasks. The Difference Between New Year’s Resolutions and Creative Intentions

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results,” said Einstein. Or Ben Franklin or Rita Mae Brown or a few other people depending on what Internet quote site you favor. Whoever said it was right and they were probably talking about new year’s resolutions. One wide ranging study has found that almost 90% of people break New Year’s resolutions within days or weeks. Yet research also consistently shows that those who do make resolutions are more successful in creating what they want than those who don’t. Taken together, those two statistics add up to a frightening picture of terrible creative skills….

Your Monday Motivator: Kicking Off A Creative Intention Series

So, we’re more than halfway through January. How are those new year resolutions coming along? If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m not a big fan of relying on will-based discipline to creating what you want to create in your life. It doesn’t work too well for most of us, especially creative types. According to market researchers Opinion Research Corp., 92% of us go about our daily lives failing to create what we most want. Whether our desire is physical (as, in their study, 38% of the desires); emotional (31%), financial (34%) or, interestingly the biggest…
