WB Yeats was an indie author

Five Reasons to Support: Secret Rose

Here are five reasons to support Secret Rose, my crowdfunding project. 1) You’ll be reviving WB Yeats as a writer of fiction.  These stories have been neglected and underestimated by the critics. In the introduction to the book, I explain why these dramatic stories of national and personal vision, that have the flavour of folklore, deserve to be resuscitated. (I believe they are as important to world literature as Grimm’s Fairy Tales).  2) You’ll be supporting an indie author’s crazy passion project.  Making a beautiful artefact like this is unbelievably expensive these days. The paper alone is hard to source and use in modern machinery. In this, Yeats 150th…

Be More Creative Guest. This week WB Yeats on Creative Flow

This is the final post in this regular “Be More Creative Guest” series. Going forward, Mondays will be devoted to “My Creativist Hero”, where one creativist praises the achievements of another. If you have a hero, whose life and work followed creativist principles, and you’d like to be included in the series, email me through the contact form. The “Be More Creative” guest slots will continue as an occasional feature. As I’m in such a Yeatsian haze at the moment, finishing Her Secret Rose, I thought I’d conclude the series with my favourite description of Creative Flow, from his “Among School Children”…

Ingram Spark interview at the Indie Author Fringe Festival for IndieReCon

Post by Yen Ooi The last day of the London Book Fair and IndieReCon saw the exciting Indie Author Fringe Festival that was held at Foyles, London on 17th April 2015. At the event, Ingram Spark interviewed Orna about her new project, a crowdfunder for Secret Rose, a double-book replica of WB Yeats’s 1897 first edition of The Secret Rose. This project will contain that book of short stories and Orna’s novel, Her Secret Rose together, as part of #Yeats2015, celebrating the poet’s 150-year anniversary. Her Secret Rose by Orna will also be published as a standalone novel outside of the Secret Rose project,…

I Am Of Ireland: WB Yeats Event in London

On April 1st this year, I’ll be celebrating my birthday with a gathering of the Irish community at the London Irish Centre to celebrate the 150 birth anniversary of WB Yeats. (Follow the news on Twitter: #yeats2015) The event, which is being supported by The Irish Department of Diaspora Affairs and the London Irish Centre, will focus on the question of what it means to be Irish — especially when one lives away from Ireland, as did Yeats, a long-time Londoner.  More than any other writer, WB Yeats established the idea of Ireland as an internal, magical imaginative space, a refuge from the world and…

My Yeats 2015

It’s the birth centenary of the Irish poet WB Yeats and all sorts of excitement are planned. The great poet and playwrights has been for me, as for so many Irish writers, inspiration and fascination. I was first introduced as a small child to his famous words in “The Lake Isle of Inishfree:: “Come away o human child, to the waters and the wild, with a fairy hand-in-hand, for the world’s more full of weeping, than you can understand…” And I thought they were written for me alone. This sense of intimacy has  been what I have always most treasured in his poetry. But Yeats was,…
