poem for patrons: full flight
Creative Writing: Inspirational Poetry

This Month’s Exclusive Poem for Patrons: Full Flight

This Month’s Exclusive Poem for Patrons: Full Flight I was going to post a different poem for the exclusive this month but then this one arrived. Though I was thinking of a dear friend as I wrote, I think it’s born out of lockdown too. How are you coping with lockdown? I have to admit, my online life is keeping me going. I was part of a panel discussion for US National Poetry Month this week and will feature three wonderful indie poets I got to know there in the next podcast… along with some of the great submissions on…

International Poetry Circle

I wanted to tell you about a fantastic social media initiative that is also a great example of the kinds of things that are being born out of the creative conditions created by the lockdown. Tara Skurtu, wonderful poet and writer had the idea for The International Poetry Circle in March. She wanted to create a place to bring poets, poetry readers and poetry lovers together as we headed into sheltering, cocooning, quarantining and socially isolating ourselves. “People often turn to poetry in tough times,” she said, “so I’m starting Poetry Circle—a growing thread of people reading their poems and…

This Month’s Exclusive Poem for Patrons: On Reaching 60: Happenings

This Month’s Exclusive Poem for Patrons: On Reaching 60: Happenings I’m posting this after a long day of strange celebrations of my big birthday. Unable to physically get together with family or friends, I spent the day on my phone and yet again, found myself so very grateful that we live in this time of online connection. All my poetry is exclusive to my patrons for 90 days. On Reaching 60: Happenings  “*it happens”, the philosopher said. And who can disagree? And as soon as *it happens we give *it the third degree. (Which, indeed, is how we  came to have…

Self-Publishing Poetry Podcast Reminder: Content Marketing for Poetry

Tomorrow evening I’ll be live with Dalma at 7pm (UK time) on Facebook for the Self-Publishing Poetry Salon, talking about Content Marketing for Poetry. Content marketing is a popular and effective form of marketing but many authors think it works only for nonfiction. In this month’s Self-Publishing Poetry Podcast I share my content marketing strategy and Dalma and I analyse outstanding content marketing by some other indie poets. Plus: Dalma and I read work submitted by self-publishing poets to Indie Poetry Please! (submit work here: https://www.ornaross.com/indie-poetry-please-podcast/) And that discussion will go out on the ALLi podcast on Wednesday next. You…

This Month’s Exclusive Poem for Patrons: Flare

This month’s exclusive poem for patrons: Flare.  The trees in London are grey and bare at the moment. Just outside my study window there is one that flares to an astonishing shade of yellow in autumn. Looking at how it is now, and wondering over the miracle of being able to see it so differently in my mind’s eye, gave me this poem. All my poetry is exclusive to my patrons for 90 days. Exclusive Poem for Patrons: Flare There are times in autumn when no matter how hurried or worried our days we can be arrested by the colour…
