My dear friend and sister indie author, Debbie Young, recently told me that she is starting a literature festival to celebrate books and reading. It didn’t come as a surprise. Debbie is known to us all for her zeal in bookish activities, locally and nationally. Nevertheless, she is one busy lady, with her family, her work for ALLi, her own books and assorted voluntary and village activities. So why a literary festival? One of the best events I’ve been to this summer was Hop Farm Music Festival, headlined by Bob Dylan, who delivered a fun, high-energy interpretation of his classics that I thought pure genius.

Even more exciting, though, was the heart-clenching set delivered by one of my all-time artist-icons, Patti Smith.
